Inspire's December activity

INSPIRE is a newly-formed group at St. Michael's. The name was chosen by the young people who form it, mainly recently-confirmed members of the congregation, and is intended to represent their aspirations for themselves and others who may join them. They usually meet on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 4.00pm - 6.00pm

This month they decided that they would like to make up food parcels for the homeless and enlisted the help of the rest of the congregation at the Gathered Round service.

Emily and Christopher, members of the group, share their experiences.

INSPIRE group went to Tesco in Old Amersham on Saturday 7 December 2019, to buy items to make the emergency bags for the homeless. The money used was sponsored by Amersham Night Cycling group.   We spent it on toiletries, food and clothing.  We got these items by splitting into two groups; one group decided what type of toiletries and clothing whilst the other group chose the food by looking carefully at the dates and how easy it is to eat.

Thus the Gathered Round service activity on Sunday 8 December 2019 was to make the emergency bags.  INSPIRE group was leading this activity by reading out some of their favourite passages from the Old and New Testament and gave clues on what to put into the bags which created 10 emergency bags.

We are very grateful for the experience to find out what to buy for the emergency bags and to help lead the activities

The following are some of our favourite Testament passages:

"Jesus answered, if you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.  Then come, follow me." Matthew 19:21

"She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy." Proverbs 31:20
